MARGAO: Captain Viriato Fernandes, the MP for South Goa, stated on Thursday that the District Mineral Fund ought to be used to improve infrastructure, such as roads, drinking water supplies, health and education facilities, and environmental preservation.
In order to ensure that everyone in the remote areas benefits from mobile connectivity, the MP has also endorsed BSNL.
During his visit to the South Goa district Collectorate, the MP met with DMF officials and received a briefing on the schemes that can be implemented through the Mineral fund.
In order for the final person living in these areas to benefit from the schemes, Captain Viriato emphasized the necessity of using the DMF for the benefit of the affected residents in the mining area.
In order to give people access to health care, education, and other necessities, he specifically mentioned enhancing the road system in the district’s outlying areas. During our election campaign, we learned that some areas are inaccessible by road, making it difficult for elderly people to travel to the town and for children to attend school. In these isolated villages, we need to look into the possibility of using the DMF for road infrastructure,” he stated.
The MP claimed that since the South Goa district hospital is miles from the mining-affected areas, the DMF should be used to upgrade the community health centers in these talukas, removing the need for the affected mining communities to travel to the hospital.
The MP met with a group of BSNL representatives in the interim, and they gave him an update on the district’s mobile coverage. When the MP questioned the delegation about public radiation fears, the representatives insisted that radiation from cell phones is not as high as radiation from electricity.
