New Delhi: In the face of tragedy, India has once again demonstrated its strength in unity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of a devastating avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. The incident, which occurred near Mana village, resulted in the loss of eight lives, while 46 workers were rescued from the debris. This display of national solidarity was highlighted by PM Modi during a public address in Uttarkashi, where he also emphasized the importance of promoting year-round tourism in Uttarakhand.
A massive avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp near Mana village, burying 54 workers under a thick layer of snow. The rescue efforts were extensive, involving multiple agencies such as the Army, ITBP, NDRF, and SDRF. Despite the challenges posed by harsh weather conditions, these teams managed to rescue 46 workers, though eight tragically lost their lives. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by workers in high-altitude regions during severe weather conditions.
PM Modi praised the nation’s response to the tragedy, noting that the unity shown by the people provided strength to the families of the victims. He also discussed plans to enhance Uttarakhand’s tourism sector, aiming to make it a year-round destination. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for diversification in tourism, ensuring that no season remains off-season in Uttarakhand. This vision aligns with the state’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage, featuring significant pilgrimage sites like the Badrinath Temple.
The avalanche incident highlights the challenges faced by workers in remote, high-altitude areas. However, it also underscores the resilience and unity of the nation in the face of adversity. As Uttarakhand continues to develop its tourism sector, it is poised to become a leading destination for travelers from around the world, offering experiences that span across all seasons.
