Calangute: As the sun sets over Calangute, one of Goa’s most vibrant tourist destinations, a new era of power reliability is dawning.
In a move to bolster the region’s infrastructure, the Goa electricity department has embarked on a significant project to install 33KV underground cabling.
This initiative, launched in early March 2025, aims to fortify the power grid, ensuring a stable and uninterrupted supply of electricity.
The project is particularly timely, given Calangute’s status as a tourism hotspot, where frequent power outages have previously disrupted businesses and daily life.
The decision to upgrade the power infrastructure with underground cables is driven by the need to enhance safety and aesthetics.
Overhead wiring, which has been a concern for both residents and visitors, will be replaced, reducing risks and improving the visual appeal of the area.
Local stakeholders have expressed enthusiasm for the project, recognizing its potential to boost economic growth by supporting the hospitality and service sectors.
The initiative is part of a broader state government effort to modernize Goa’s power infrastructure, with work expected to be completed in phases to minimize disruptions to daily activities.
