PONDA: The Kavklem locals passed a resolution to ban discriminatory practices against the widow. The answer by OBC leader Madu Naik was adopted.
The Goa government recently declared that the government would introduce a comprehensive law to prevent discrimination against widows in the State.
Members across party lines strongly recommended that the government take immediate action to put an end to unjust customs of widow discrimination, abuse, and isolation in Goa.
Garbage, scrapyard, and illegal Bar issues also dominated at Kavlem Gramsabhas.
The locals demanded action against hazardous scrapyards, which are posing a threat to locals and causing a nuisance through their various activities.
Sarpanch Manuja Naik said the Panchayat has a demolition order for scrapyards; however, around 4 had approached Court, and the matter is pending. He said he recently Complained to Deputy Collector, and the inspection of some illegal scrapyard is done, and legal action is awaited.
She said she is against illegal scrapyards as it causes a nuisance to people.
The garbage issue once again dominated in Panchayat. Sarpanch Manuja Naik said Panchayat carry its garbage to Saligao Waste Treatment Plant.
She said the Kavlem Panchayat and two other nearby Panchayats are trying to identify one common site for garbage treatment plants and hoping to resolve the issue soon.
Deputy Sarpanch Sushant Kapileshwarkar said Panchayat work hard to solve the issues affecting the village.
The Kavlem Panchayat playground issue also dominated in Gramsabha. The local Kishan Naik said the playground is used by people for antisocial activities. The locals complained about an illegal bar operating at Paunwada.
Sarpanch Manuja Naik also said to find a solution to problems faced by Paunwada locals.
