Panaji: Goa’s promising badminton talent, 10-year-old Amaira Dhumatker, delivered an encouraging performance at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior Under-13 Ranking Badminton Tournament 2026 in Patna, reaching the quarterfinals of the Girls’ Singles competition.
Amaira’s campaign in the singles event came to an end after she lost to Telangana’s Saina Sharma in straight games, with the match ending 8-15, 8-15. Despite the defeat, reaching the last eight of a national ranking tournament marks a significant milestone for the young Goan player, who competed against some of the country’s emerging badminton talents.
Interestingly, Amaira and Saina were also partners in the Girls’ Doubles event. However, the pair could not progress beyond the pre-quarterfinals, bringing their doubles campaign to an end.
Amaira’s performance has highlighted her potential and the progress she has made at a young age. Competing at the national level requires considerable skill, consistency and determination, making her quarterfinal appearance a valuable achievement in her developing badminton career.
Goa Badminton Association President Manoj Patil praised Amaira’s efforts, highlighting her dedication to the sport and the support she receives from her family. He noted that reaching the quarterfinals of a national ranking competition at just 10 years old was a noteworthy accomplishment, considering the high standard of badminton across the country.
Patil also expressed confidence in Amaira’s future, pointing to her steady improvement and willingness to work hard. With continued training, encouragement and the right support, the young shuttler has the potential to make further progress in competitive badminton.
Although her singles journey ended in the quarterfinals, Amaira’s performance in Patna provides valuable experience as she continues to develop her game and pursue greater success on the national badminton circuit.
