PANAJI: The Goa Union of Journalists announced the GUJ JOURNALISM AWARDS for 2018, 2019 and 2020 at a well-attended programme at the GUJ headquarters in Panaji on Saturday.
Goemkarponn Editor, Suraj Nandrekar, who worked for Herald newspaper then, has bagged three awards – Rural Journalism 2018, Environment Reporting 2020 and Investigative Journalism 2020.
Unlike in the past when awards were announced directly, GUJ decided to give the participants a chance to speak to the judges about their entries. When announcements were made, the judges explained the thinking behind each award-winning entry.
Two of the three judges — veteran journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai and veteran photojournalist Sandeep Naik – attended the programme and announced the prizes. The third judge, senior journalist Anant Salkar, was unable to attend the event due to unavoidable circumstances.
The judges did not name any winner in categories that did not receive worthy enough entries.
All participants were awarded participation certificates at the hands of the judges and special guest, Abhishek Ranjan Singh, chairperson of the Delhi-based Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Foundation.
The date for the prize-distribution function for GUJ JOURNALISM AWARDS for 2018, 2019 and 2020 will be announced later.
GUJ president Rajtilak Naik welcomed while GUJ secretary Vasudev Pagi proposed the vote of thanks.
