PANAJI: Agriculture Minister Babu Kavlekar said that government is examining the possibilities of restarting Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited (SSSKL), after obtaining expert opinion and that the exact date cannot be conveyed at this stage.
“Government is examining the possibilities of restarting Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited (SSSKL), after obtaining expert opinion. The exact date cannot be conveyed at this stage,” said Kavlekar
He further said that Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited has stopped crushing the Sugarcane and the factory was shutdown/ stopped on 28/02/2019.
“Reasons for shutdown of Sanjivani Sugar Factory are frequent breakdown of machinery and shortage of Sugarcane for crushing,” he added
Minister also said that Government has constituted Sugarcane Farmers Facilitation Committee.
“In order to avoid financial loss to farmers due to closure of Sanjivani Sugar Factory, Government has formulated new scheme to provide special assistance to Sugarcane farmer @ Rs 3000/- per MT for first year, Rs 2800/- Per MT for second year, Rs 2600/- per MT for third year, Rs. 2400/- per MT for fourth year and Rs 2200/- for fifth year.
During this period, farmers will be free to harvest the cane and supply to any sugar factory or use for any other purpose, at their own will. The farmers are also provided 50 % subsidy towards purchase of sugarcane seedlings and sugarcane seed setts for planting sugarcane In addition to above benefits.
