MARGAO: State BJP president Damu Naik on Sunday said the government would take an appropriate decision on Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act after considering its implications for Goa and its people.
Naik was responding to questions on whether the government was examining the possibility of withdrawing the contentious provision. He was also asked if the issue could affect the BJP’s prospects in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Maintaining that the government had consistently sought to take decisions in the larger interest of the state, Naik said the final call on Section 39A would be taken by the government under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s leadership.
He said the government would consider the concerns surrounding the provision and act in what it considers to be the best interests of Goa and its people.
The BJP leader’s statement comes amid continued discussion over Section 39A and its implications, with attention now focused on the government’s next move on the issue.
