Panaji: Adil Khan scored the winner six minutes from time while goalkeeper Abhimanyu Singh brought up a penalty save with seconds to go as Sporting Clube de Goa edged past Churchill Brothers FC in the Goa Professional League at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Wednesday.
Just when it looked like the teams were heading for a goalless draw, Sporting earned a corner and Myron Fernandes swung in a dangerous corner which was headed in by the former international Adil.
Churchill tried to put up a late fight for a point and were awarded a penalty but it was Abhimanyu who brought up a brave save to hand three points to Sporting.
Adil had recently netted a late winner in the I-League 2 when Sporting edged past SC Bengaluru 4-3.
The win helped Sporting move to the fourth spot with 40 points from 21 games.
Dempo are third with the same number of points but have played a game more. Pax of Nagoa SC are second with 41 points from 22 games while Sesa FA are leading the standings with 45 points after 23 games.
