Since yesterday, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed his profile pic to the national tricolour, lakhs of people have started using the tricolour on their profile pic on social media accounts.
Of Course, as we approach the 75th Independence year, it is a great way of showing your patriotism.
However, there is one issue with this; as observed on social media, there are several profiles which, I would say, inadvertently have the national flag placed near their feet. Of Course, I would say it is unintentional, but still, it is a mistake, and people should be aware that this amounts to insulting the tricolour.

In order to encourage the public to follow suit and celebrate the tricolour in a unique way this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday set “tiranga” as the display photo on his social media accounts ahead of Independence Day.
In his most recent Mann Ki Baat speech, Prime Minister Modi stated that the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” is becoming a widespread movement, and he invited people to use the image “Tiranga” as their social media profile photo from August 2 to August 15.
“Today is a unique August 2! Our country is prepared for Har Ghar Tiranga, a nationwide movement to honour our Tricolor, while commemorating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. I’ve updated my social media profiles’ default picture and urge everyone to do the same, this morning,” he stated in a tweet.

Before showing your love for the country and showing off before your peers and the political leaders, I would rather suggest people just have a look at the place where the tricolour is.
Not just near the feet, but I have also seen some profile pics of social media influencers going shirtless or in two-pieces posing with the national flag, which surely is a great insult.
Come Independence Day, a cricket victory or anything else that fills you up with nationalistic fervour, and the desire to wear your patriotic heart on your sleeve wells up in many. But taking the ‘wearing’ part too literally often turns what was meant as a tribute to the tricolour into a court case for ‘insulting’ the flag. Not even the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar have been able to escape the uber-nationalistic brigade’s outrage. What starts out as an exuberant expression of one’s love for the country has the inevitable ending of being slapped with a legal notice because someone got offended, or being trolled online or facing angry, placard-waving demonstrators. Will our so-called ‘flag bearers’ please free the flag?
