COLVALE: Colvale Police have arrested jail inmate Rovina Lobo in connection with an alleged drug smuggling case inside the Central Jail, Colvale.
The arrest follows information provided during the investigation into GHRDC security guard Asha Chodankar, who was arrested after allegedly being caught attempting to smuggle drugs into the prison.
According to the complaint filed by the Jail Superintendent, Chodankar was detained at the jail’s frisking point after security personnel suspected her of carrying contraband. A subsequent search allegedly led to the recovery of 236 grams of ganja and 2 grams of charas, collectively valued at around ₹30,000.
Police said the drugs were allegedly concealed inside a steel water bottle. Three mobile phones and three ATM cards were also reportedly recovered from Chodankar’s possession.
Investigators have alleged that Chodankar, who had secured bail, supplied the contraband directly to inmate Rovina Lobo inside the prison premises. Based on the information gathered during the investigation, Lobo was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had said the GHRDC security guard involved in the incident would be suspended and subsequently terminated from service.
