BETUL: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday emphasised the importance of strengthening India’s energy security, ensuring affordable fuel supplies and diversifying energy sources while inaugurating the 29th Energy Technology Meet (ETM) 2026 at the ONGC Advanced Training Institute in Goa.
Puri inaugurated the three-day event, which brings together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and technology experts to explore solutions to India’s evolving energy requirements, with a focus on innovation and the commercialisation of emerging technologies.
During a fireside chat with journalist Palki Sharma Upadhyay on the opening day, the Minister discussed key priorities for the energy sector, including energy security, affordability, the energy transition and diversification of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies.
The discussions highlighted the need to strengthen supply resilience and ensure reliable fuel availability as India’s energy demand grows. Puri also interacted with the media during a press conference, addressing issues related to fuel availability, domestic energy production and efforts to diversify supply sources.
Organised by the Centre for High Technology under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) as co-host, this year’s meet is themed “Accelerating Energy Innovation: From Research to Commercialisation”.
The event also highlighted initiatives aimed at expanding domestic energy resources and diversifying the country’s energy mix. The GOBARdhan initiative, under the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, has an outlay of Rs 23,731 crore for 2026–27 to 2035–36 to scale up compressed biogas production and promote the circular bioeconomy.
The Samudra Manthan initiative, under the National Offshore Exploration Scheme, has an approved outlay of Rs 84,084 crore up to 2030–31 to boost oil and gas exploration in deepwater and ultra-deepwater areas, strengthen domestic resource development and support long-term energy security.
Puri also visited the exhibition, where companies and technology providers showcased innovations and solutions for the downstream hydrocarbon sector, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and industry collaboration.
The meet, which concludes on October 29, will feature technical presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions and an exhibition covering green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, carbon capture, crude-to-chemicals, biofuels and gas-based energy.
The programme also includes discussions on building a start-up ecosystem in the energy sector, along with Start-Up Awards and Refinery Performance and Innovation Awards recognising technological advancements. A Research and Development Conclave organised by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry will focus on net-zero refineries, energy efficiency, green hydrogen, biomass utilisation, water management and other emerging technologies.
The meet seeks to strengthen collaboration between industry and research institutions and accelerate the translation of technological advances into commercially viable solutions for India’s energy sector.
