PANAJI:
GPCC Spokesperson Arch. Tulio de Souza on Tuesday said that there is fear and anxiety in the minds of the patients as well as their relatives with regards to availability of beds and other medical equipment’s in GMC.
“People are feeling afraid of the entire Super Speciality Block crashing down after the ceiling of a section of the block collapsed and water came inside, flooding the Covid ward just on the second day of its opening. Health Secretary Ravi Dhavan must restore the confidence of the people by guaranteeing the patients of availability of beds, equipment’s and their safety before blaming media and opposition,” he stated.
“I strongly condemn the belated statement of the Health Secretary who tried to defend the gross mismanagement in GMC and overall failure of the State Government by their inapt handling of the Covid pandemic,” de Souza said.
He said the Health Secretary must first ask his Health Minister Vishwajit Rane why he clearly admitted and made public announcement of the deaths which occurred in GMC between 2 am to 6 am due to shortage of oxygen.
“The statement of the Health Secretary denying that deaths in GMC did not happen due to lack of oxygen is in clear contradiction of the submissions made before the High Court by the Government,” he said.
Tulio de Souza said Congress Party will take initiative to encourage people to take quick admission in GMC and other Government facilities if the Health Secretary gives us assurance that patients will not be made to suffer , by making them sit on chairs or sleep on stretchers and floors while taking treatment. “The entire health infrastructure has collapsed and the insensitive government is pointing fingers at others by blaming them for governments gross failures,” he stated.
He said the Congress wants Chief Minister to tell the people of Goa about what action Government has initiated about the incident of front glass facade of Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Stadium being blown away by winds and the steps the Government has initiated to bring to justice all those who are responsible for sub-standard work of the Super Speciality Block.
“As the Government has got completely exposed, the Chief Minister and Health Minister are now finding it difficult to face the media and hence pushed the bureaucracy ahead to avoid answering tough questions,” Arch. Tulio de Souza said.
