OLD GOA: The murder of Vishal Golatkar, 35, of Merces, who was discovered dead near Voilem Bhat-Merces on Sunday, was solved by the Old Goa police.
Speaking to reporters, SP Nidhin Valsan said that the suspects hadbeen arrested and were Sai Kundaikar, also known as Cobra, 30, Omkar Chari, 19, Gaurish Gawas, 25, Tushar Kundaikar, 38, and a minor. All of the suspects were from Merces.
Valsan continued by stating that Sai, the principal accuser, and Vishal were once close friends. Sai was frequently mistreated by Vishal, and this behavior eventually went beyond what could be tolerated, according to Valsan, who also added that Sai and Chari then came up with a plan to kill Vishal.
On Saturday night, Sai summoned the deceased under some pretence, and he and the other conspirators attacked the victim with sharp objects, killing him.
When questioned, Valsan said that it was a planned murder but ruled out any gang war in the murder.
According to police sources, a passerby first noticed that a bike has been dumped in a pit after which he went to have a closer look.
He stated, “Later all the accused disposed the body and the bike at Voilem BhatMerces near a fishnet factory,” and claimed that the location of the murder and the location where the body was dumped were around 1.5 kilometers apart.
When questioned, Valsan admitted that the murder was planned but rejected out any involvement of gang warfare.
“The passerby then noticed that the body of Golatkar was also lying near the bike after which the police were notified,” the sources continued, adding that the police arrived at the scene and began an inquiry.
Later, the Golatkar body was delivered by the police to the GMC for an autopsy. In response to the sister of Golatkar’s complaint, the Old Goa police opened a murder investigation.
Golatkar was implicated in a number of criminal crimes, including the Santa Cruz gunfight in 2020 and the sword-wielding attack on visitors from Maharashtra in 2017.
