QUEPEM: Even as the State Health Minister boasts of State of the art infrastructure, the Avedem sub-health centre has gone to the dogs, and the dilapidated health centre structure is on the verge of collapse due to no maintenance from the government authorities.
The health care facility is one of the most critical aspects of governance. It should be given the main priority after Education, but in Avedem village, the situation seems to be the opposite. Avedon sub-health centre from Quepem taluka, which was built in 1982, with good infrastructure at that time, is now crying for the attention from the authorities.
Due to the negligence and lack of interest by the local Panchayat body, Health department and local representatives during the last 35 years, the condition of this structure is scary.
This Avedem sub-centre is not the only structure, but there are three more structures and one water tank that are totally in bad shape.
Vishal Desai local of Avedem, said Government is saying that they are providing the best medical facility in all the health centres in Goa, but actually, on the ground level, the situation is far from better. The doctor comes once a week as a formal visit to this health centre.
Savio Alfonso local of Avedem, said that the structure of the health centre is in precarious condition. Anything can happen at any time, and there is a danger to all, even the medical staff who are visiting there, so by looking at all these, we can say it is a total waste of money for taxpayers.
He further said it is hard to digest that the Government has failed to repair this facility in the last 30 to 35 years.
