PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that
The site Selection Committee has recommended proposed land at Rivona is suitable for setting up IIT-Goa.
CM Sawant was replying to a question by LoP Yuri Alemao on the IIT Goa Campus Project.
“Subject to State Govt providing proper connectivity with approach roads, power and water supply, permitting change of land zone & relaxation of FAR; Revenue Dept verifying land title documents,” said Sawant
He further said that since the IIT Project is proposed, planned and executed by the Ministry of
Education, Govt. of India, and the only requirement from the State Government is to provide the required land, for the same, no DPR is prepared by the State government.
“Presently, all aspects related to employment opportunities for Goan Youths, impact on the Environment and Green Cover, impact on Demography of the State etc. would be appropriately considered and addressed, once the Project is initiated.
Sawant said that it is envisaged that IIT being an institute of national importance offering professional education at UG/PG and The research level, will certainly employ good number of human resources, as their
teaching and non-teaching staff, from amongst aspirants at the National level, including Goans.
Also, the Government will ensure that sufficient safeguards are adopted to minimize any adverse impact on the Environment & existing Green cover at the
time of granting required project approval by the various statutory authorities, who would be approving the project, in accordance with rules, regulations, norms
and standards, as applicable.
