New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the 12 venues that will host the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027, with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia jointly staging the prestigious tournament. The event marks the return of the 50 over World Cup to Africa for the first time since 2003.
South Africa will host matches across eight venues: Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, SuperSport Park in Centurion, Newlands in Cape Town, Kingsmead in Durban, St George’s Park in Gqeberha, Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, Boland Park in Paarl and Buffalo Park in KuGompo City.
Zimbabwe will stage matches at Harare Sports Club, Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo and the newly built Fale Mosi oa Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls. Namibia will host matches at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
The venue announcement was made during a special ceremony in Johannesburg attended by several cricketing legends, including Graeme Smith, Makhaya Ntini, Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Kagiso Rabada, Hamilton Masakadza and Rudolf Jansen van Vuuren.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the tournament’s return to Africa as a landmark moment for world cricket, expressing confidence that the three host nations would deliver a memorable event while showcasing the region’s passion for the sport and cultural diversity.
The 2027 ODI World Cup will feature 57 matches and introduce a new three stage competition format designed to increase competitiveness throughout the tournament.
The event will begin with a Super Series, where the teams ranked 12th to 14th will compete in a round robin, with the winner progressing to the main tournament.
The next stage will feature 12 teams divided into two groups of six, with each side playing every other team in its group. The top three teams from each group, along with the next best placed team, will qualify for the Super 7 stage.
The Super 7 will comprise 21 matches, after which the top four teams will advance to the semi finals. The table toppers will face the fourth placed team, while the second and third placed sides will battle for a place in the final.
