PANAJI: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that heavy rainfall of 6.4 cms in 24 hours is very likely to occur across Goa.
“In continuation of previous forecasts, Heavy rainfall(Rainfall>6.4cm in 24hrs) is very likely at one or two places over North&South Goa districts on 21st & 22nd September. An increase in rainfall is due to the formation of a Low-Pressure Area over southern Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood,’ the IMD forcasts states
The IMD further stated that wind speed will be reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over parts of Southwest and adjoining West central Arabian Sea from 21 to 23 September due to which fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas during the above mentioned period.
Further, it has predicted that overall above normal rainfall activity is likely over northwest, central India, near-normal over south peninsular India and below-normal over east and northeast India.
According to the IMD, the Southwest Monsoon withdrawal from northwest India takes place if there is cessation of rainfall activity over the area for continuous five days.
