CURCHOREM: Stating that the stalemate on the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) is largely due to the arrogance of the Environment Minister and the plot to sell out Goa’s coastline to crony capitalists and coal lobby under pressures from the BJP Delhi leadership, Congress leadr Amit Patkar said that this stands out as the major sin of Nilesh Cabral against Goa and Goans. Hinting that there is no pardon for
such a sin as the CZMP damage would be irreparable and irreversible, Patkar exhorted the Minister to protect the interests of Goa and Goans and respect the demands of the social activists and the locals for whom the coastline and coastal lands are a source of livelihood and shelter.
Waving photographs of a massive Mansion under construction close to the banks of River Mirabag at Curchorem, Patkar accused of reckless hill-cutting and razing down of trees and alleged that the real estate development at the location is violating existing norms of Town and Country Planning. Patkar demanded that the Environment Minister investigate this illegal property development and put the truth before the people of Curchorem. Who is the party involved in this unlawful activity? Has the party got the necessary approvals? Is the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council aware of this? Why is the TCP department silent? These are the questions to be answered, said Patkar.
Patkar questions Cabral:
Ø Why is the CZMP opposed by people?
Ø Why do you lie on power status in Goa”
Ø Who is developing the property close to River Mirabag?
Ø What worthwhile project is completed in Curchorem?
Ø Why PHC lacks in basic healthcare facilities?
“As the Minister of Power, Nilesh Cabral spreads lies and hides the truth, saying that Goa faces a power deficit. A White Paper on the issue released by the ministry says that Goa has surplus power, and a few weeks later, the Power Minister speaks about power shortage,” Patkar says.
Patkar demanded that the Minister come clear and clean on this as it looks vested interests involved for this complete U-turn on the white paper.
“It’s a myth that Cabral is an efficient Minister and as an MLA has done development of Curchorem”, Patkar said, further providing instances of the Primary Health Centre, which lacks basic facilities and incomplete projects such as unfinished projects swimming pool, bus stand and market complex. Name a worthwhile project which is planned and completed during the tenure of Cabral, Patkar challenged.
