New York:
In a significant demonstration of its commitment to global governance and financial stability, India has once again earned a place on the United Nations’ prestigious ‘Honour Roll’ for 2025. This recognition comes after India successfully paid its regular budget assessment in full and within the stipulated 30-day period, a feat achieved by only 35 member states.
India’s inclusion in this elite group underscores its unwavering support for the principles and purposes of the UN Charter. The country’s prompt payment of USD 37.64 million to the United Nations Regular Budget for 2025 was made on January 31, 2025, adhering strictly to the financial regulations outlined by the UN.
India’s timely contribution is a testament to its role as a responsible and committed member of the global community. The UN General Assembly approves the organization’s regular budget each December, with member states receiving payment notes in early January. India’s consistent appearance on the Honour Roll highlights its dedication to upholding the financial stability and operational effectiveness of the UN.
The payment process is governed by Financial Regulation 3.5 of the UN, which mandates that member states settle their dues within 30 days of receiving the payment notice. India’s adherence to this regulation not only reflects its financial discipline but also its strong commitment to international cooperation and multilateralism.
UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang has acknowledged India’s consistent fulfillment of its financial obligations, praising the country for its reliability in supporting the UN’s global mandate. The UN Secretary-General has also expressed appreciation for India’s timely payment, emphasizing its crucial role in enabling the organization to effectively fulfill its global responsibilities.
India’s continued presence on the Honour Roll reinforces its reputation as a dependable and responsible member of the UN, dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and development on a global scale.
