PORVORIM: While admitting iron content in raw water, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral informed that the quality of treated water is being checked daily, and laboratory tests are being done periodically.
“The quality of treated water is being checked daily & the laboratory tests are being done periodically to ensure that the quality parameters of treated are within the permissible limits before the water is actually supplied to end consumers,” said Cabral.
He further said the water supply to villages Keri, Shiroli, Ravana and Ghonteli of Village panchayat Keri of Poriem constituency is from a 2 MLD pressure filter plant. The Plant was commissioned in the year 2014.
“The source of Raw water is from Anjunem Dam through irrigation Canal. The treated water quality is monitored at regular intervals, and periodic samples are tested at Dabose water testing laboratory to ensure a clean and safe drinking water supply,” he added.
Cabral said that in February 2022, the iron content of raw water increased from 0.1 Smg/l to 1.8 mg/I. The sudden rise in Fe++concentration was due to the opening of the bottom gate of Anjunem Dam by the Water Resource Department.
“As per the routine measures, the Department immediately started the pre-treatment of Raw water by dozing the alum lime to bring dawn the iron content within the permissible limit, i.e. 0.3mg/l, the ratio was set as per the iron content in the water. i.e. approx Alum 20ppm & lime 1 Oppm,” he added.
