SANGUEM: Curchorem Police have registered a case following a complaint alleging illegal removal and transportation of iron ore from the Chowgule mines at Costi, Kalay, Sanguem.
The complaint was filed by Suraj Kalangutkar, Geologist with the Directorate of Mines and Geology, Government of Goa.
According to the complaint, prior to August 7, 2026, at around 1 pm, unknown persons allegedly re-handled a mining dump at the Chowgule mines and removed iron ore from the site.
The accused allegedly transported the extracted iron ore to an unknown destination without lawful authority or valid permission from the Directorate of Mines and Geology.
The complaint states that the act amounted to theft of iron ore belonging to the State Government and caused financial loss to the government.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Bharat Kharat of Curchorem Police Station.
