DAVORLIM: The Selaulim water pipeline that carried raw water burst after being damaged by a JCB machine, resulting in reports of water waste from Davorlim village on Friday morning.
Senior Public Works Department (PWD)-Water Supply officials have stated that the broken pipeline, which was transporting raw water to the Verna Industrial Estate, will not have an impact on South Goa’s access to drinking water.
When a JCB that the Water Resources Department (WRD) had placed nearby for work unintentionally damaged the pipeline, it burst.
Anand Sawant, a Davorlim resident, questioned why WRD representatives weren’t present at the location when the contractor used the JCB for the repairs.
It is not expected that the contractor is aware of where the subterranean pipeline is located. Sawant continued, “The WRD engineers should have been on site when the work was being done.
The interrupted water supply has had a serious negative effect on the people of Davorlim village.
The village is suffering from a lack of water, which makes it difficult to do everyday tasks like cleaning, cooking, and bathing. For households without other sources of water, the situation is especially difficult.
When questioned, the JCB driver working on the retaining wall claimed that no one had informed him of the existence of the water pipeline. He added that the first digging had begun, and regrettably, a water pipeline had been damaged.
