MAPUSA: An 18-year-old youth was allegedly lured with the promise of a job before being robbed at knifepoint in an isolated area of Colvale. Colvale Police have arrested one accused, recovered the stolen mobile phone, and secured six days’ police custody for the accused.
According to the complaint lodged by Amit Kumar (18), a resident of Anjuna originally from Sitamarhi, Bihar, the incident took place on July 23. The complainant alleged that two men befriended him on the pretext of offering him a job and first took him by bus to the Baga-Calangute area before bringing him back to Colvale.
Police said the duo allegedly led the victim to a secluded bushy area in Colvale, where he was assaulted, threatened with a knife, and robbed of his Redmi 12C mobile phone worth ₹18,000. The accused also allegedly forced the victim to transfer ₹9,500 through a mobile payment application to an unknown person’s account.
During the investigation, police arrested Subhash Kumar (29), a resident of Karaswada originally from Basti district, Uttar Pradesh. The stolen mobile phone was recovered from his possession.
The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, who remanded him to six days’ police custody. Police are continuing their investigation to trace the second accused and ascertain further details.
The case has been registered at Colvale Police Station under Section 309(4) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Investigation is being carried out by PSI Ramchandra Satelkar.
