CANACONA: Stating it is only because journalists point out mistakes and shortcomings, CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar said, politicians, authorities and others concerned gets the opportunity to improve themselves, bring out healthy developments, makes them stay awake and understand their surroundings.
“Journalists must compulsorily show mistakes and shortcomings. While as we say some journalists are doing negative journalism, these very journalists by their negative reportage bring out positive works for the benefit and betterment of the society,” Naikgaunkar was speaking at the Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak Punyathiti (Tilak’s Anniversary), celebrated as Patrakar Din, by Canacona Patrakar Sangh on Tuesday.
Journalists should fall prey to politicians’ threats and should report freely, and honest journalists will get appreciation, support and security from the public. Previously, politicians and bureaucracy used to be equally wary of news reports, fearing journalists will expose them as the public used to take serious note of news reports they were reading about. Today, the general public and government are no longer not much concerned about news and reporters, at least not the way previously used to be. We need to think about it seriously.’
