PANAJI: Kadamba Transport Corporation Chairman Ulhas Tuenkar has said that the government is making efforts to avert the strike announced by Kadamba employees for November 12 over the demand for implementation of the 7th Pay Commission.
Tuenkar said the employees’ demand would be addressed once the pending ₹24 crore is released by the government. He assured that the amount would subsequently be paid to the workers.
Meanwhile, the corporation has introduced stricter measures to prevent financial irregularities in ticketing by bus conductors. Inspections have been intensified, and during a recent check on a Panaji–Sawantwadi bus, 15 passengers were reportedly found travelling without tickets. Action has been initiated against the concerned conductor.
Tuenkar further claimed that following the tightening of inspections, Kadamba’s daily revenue has increased by around ₹2 lakh. He said the additional revenue generated was utilised to purchase 10 new buses.
The reported increase in daily revenue following stricter inspections has raised questions about the extent of possible ticketing irregularities in the corporation’s operations and the effectiveness of its earlier monitoring mechanisms.
The developments come amid growing concerns over the employees’ pending salary-related demands and the possibility of disruption to public transport services if the proposed strike goes ahead.
