PANAJI: The refurbished Kala Academy won’t be made available to the public until the Public Works Department (PWD) turns it over to the Directorate of Art and Culture, according to Arts and Culture Minister Govind Gaude’s statement to the Legislative Assembly on Friday.
“We’re working to get it open as quickly as we can. We’ll announce the opening date as soon as the PWD turns it over to us. I am unable to specify the opening date at this time. In response to questions about requests for grants for the Directorate of Art and Culture, Gaude stated that an inspection is planned for this month.
Gaude added that the government would reveal its library policy by the end of the current month.
He added that the group drafting the policy is led by Dr. Nandkumar Kamat and that it will be the nation’s first library policy.
He added that although nine libraries have been opened throughout the State, the Ponda and Vasco libraries would shortly have their foundations poured. The Minister acknowledged that there is not enough land available for the government to build auditoriums all around the State.
