PONDA: Kavlem Panchayat distributed around 3000 garbage collection dustbins. He said from Monday onwards, the garbage collecting workers would visit every panchayat ward. There are nine wards in Panchayat.
Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar said this is an attempt to make our village garbage accessible. He said Panchayat did not own any land of its own. With cooperation and NOC of Shantadurga Temple Committee trying to set up compost unit, however, some people oppose garbage disposal unit. As per Court order, nobody can object to garbage disposal or compost unit.
He said green dust bins would collect dry garbage while wet garbage is sent to Saligao Plant. Separate bags would be issued for wet garbage collection.
Locals welcomed the move by Sarpanch to maintain the Panchayat area clean. Locals also urged Sarpanch to control the garbage dumped in the Panchayat area from locals of neighboring Panchayats who leave garbage at the roadside in Panchayat area.
