PANAJI: BJP State President Sadanand Tanawade today informed that he has requested the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to keep in abeyance the fines to be implemented under the new motor vehicles rules.
“I have asked Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Mauvin Godinho to keep in abeyance the fines to be implemented under the new motor vehicles rules as these steep fines are not feasible to the people of the state,” said Tanawade
He further said that he has have already spoken to CM Dr Pramod and Transport Minister Mauvin on the issue and they both have assured to come out with a solution in the next 2-3 days.
Goa government had finally notified the stringent Motor Vehicle Act prescribing hefty penalties for violation of Motor Vehicle rules. The Act will come into force in the state from May 1, 2021.
The implementation of the central government Act was deferred since last year on account of Covid Pandemic and poor quality or road infrastructure in the state.
The Act has been a bone of contention in many States, as the hefty fines which go up to Rs 25,000 have been termed as unjust. Godinho has already proposed reducing fines, a relaxation offered by the Central government.
