PANAJI: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has sought an urgent meeting with PWD Minister Digambar Kamat over the issues surrounding the Porvorim Elevated Corridor, while stating that he was not taken into confidence when key decisions regarding the flyover were being taken.
Khaunte said he had spoken to Kamat and urged him to convene a meeting to address concerns such as rash driving, waterlogging and restrictions imposed on the corridor.
He said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Kamat and senior PWD officials should meet at the earliest and work out measures to ensure the flyover serves its intended purpose without compromising commuter safety.
“While decisions regarding the flyover were being taken, I was not taken into confidence,” Khaunte said.
He stressed that residents of Porvorim had endured considerable disruption during the construction of the project and should now be able to benefit from the completed corridor.
The elevated corridor was presented as a major solution to Porvorim’s long-standing traffic congestion. However, safety concerns following accidents soon after its opening have resulted in restrictions, raising questions among commuters about the corridor’s operation.
Khaunte said the focus should now be on resolving the issues and ensuring that the people of Porvorim receive the benefits for which the project was conceived.
