Kandolkar To Contest Independently, Halarnkar Says He Has Nothing To Fear
Former MLA says strong public support will back his independent bid; minister responds that he has the Chief Minister’s blessings and his work is visible
Former MLA Kiran Kandolkar has announced that he will contest the upcoming election as an independent candidate, saying he has received strong public support despite approaches from several political parties.
Kandolkar said he had decided to remain independent and added that, if elected, he would support the government on issues concerning development. He also said he would back a like-minded candidate in Aldona.
Taking a dig at Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, Kandolkar said, “Breaking coconuts is not development,” while claiming that his supporters would defeat Halarnkar in the upcoming election.
Halarnkar, however, hit back at the former MLA, saying he has the blessings of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and therefore has nothing to fear.
“My work is visible to everyone. I want to ask Kandolkar whether he is sleeping or awake,” Halarnkar said, responding to Kandolkar’s criticism.
