KUDAL: In one of the biggest anti-liquor operations carried out by Kudal Police, a truck transporting a large consignment of illicit liquor from Goa was intercepted after a dramatic high-speed chase on the Mumbai–Goa Highway late on Sunday night.
According to police, the incident occurred while a patrol team was on duty at Bibavane. The officers spotted a suspicious truck coming from Goa towards Kudal and signalled the driver to stop for inspection. However, the driver ignored the police signal and sped away in an attempt to evade capture.
Police immediately launched a chase and pursued the truck before successfully intercepting it near Pinguli Tembdhurinagar.
During the search, police recovered a large quantity of liquor of various reputed brands allegedly being transported without the necessary permit. The consignment is suspected to have originated from Goa.
Police seized illicit liquor valued at ₹14.20 lakh, the truck valued at ₹10 lakh, and a sharp sickle (koyta) found inside the vehicle. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹24.20 lakh.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the liquor consignment, identify those involved in the illegal transportation and determine its intended destination.
