QUEPEM: A Quepem resident has lodged a complaint with Quepem Police alleging that he and his sister were cheated of more than ₹55.78 lakh in a land deal after being induced to invest in a property at Adnem, Balli, on the assurance that it had a clear and marketable title.
According to the complaint filed by Suraj Ballikar of Deulwada, Balli, the alleged offence took place between October 11, 2021, and November 4, 2023. The complainant alleged that Mansur Shaikh and other unknown persons, acting with common intention, induced him and his family members to purchase the immovable property by claiming that all succession formalities had been legally completed and the title was free from disputes.
Believing these representations, the complainant invested ₹50,47,500, while his sister invested ₹5,31,084 in the property.
The complainant later alleged that he discovered the Deed of Succession dated February 27, 2015, had omitted certain legal heirs. He further claimed that suspicious forged title documents, Release Deeds, Assignment Deeds and several Powers of Attorney were allegedly relied upon in a Special Civil Suit.
According to the complaint, copies of these documents were forwarded to him through WhatsApp, while the accused allegedly refused to produce the original documents and concealed material facts, thereby dishonestly inducing him to part with the money and causing wrongful loss to him and his sister.
Further investigation is being carried out by LPSI Deepa Deykar of Quepem Police Station.
