PANAJI: Governor of Goa P.S. Sreedharan Pillai today said that State Police ensured that the Crime, Law & Order situation in the state remained under control.
“Our State Police ensured that the Crime, Law & Order situation in the state remained under control. This is reflected in crime detection rate which is 85.83% and seize of 159.17 kgs of drugs worth Rs.396.35 lakh under NDPS Act during the current financial year upto November, 2023.,” said Governor while addressing the Goa Legislative Session.
He further said that the State Police is making sincere efforts to make available safe driving environment. Special drives to rein in drunken driving and over-speeding have been launched by the Traffic Police.
“A total of 5,19,443 traffic violation cases under Motor Vehicles Act have been booked and fine of Rs.34.39 crore have been collected during the current financial year upto November 2023 by the Police and Transport Department,” he added.
Pillai said that to provide proper infrastructure to the Police force, 70% of works towards construction of new building for Quepem Police Station has been completed.
“Besides this, construction of new building for Coastal Security Police Station at Chapora is fully completed and is likely to be inaugurated soon,” he added
The Governor also added that the Fire fighters have shown commendable courage and dedication in their duties. During the current financial year upto October 2023, the Fire & Emergency Services have collectively attended 5527 calls during which 87 human lives and 29 animal lives were saved.
“Due to timely action of the Fire fighters, property worth Rs. 19.47 crore have been saved/salvaged,” he added.

Governor said that for the past few years the State has been marching ahead in each and every sector due to teh boost offered by the Double Engine Government and has achieved milestones in various fields.
This has been reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 3.0 wherein Goa has become achiever in 2 goals, frontrunner in 8 goals. Performer in 3 goals and apirant in 2 goals,” he said.
He continued Goa has gone step ahead in preparing its own methodology in line with NITI Ayog to compute Goa SDG Index 2023. As per report, the State has become achiever in 4 goals, frontrunner in 10 goals an performer in 2 goals,” Governar says.
Economy….
Pillai said the economy of the State has shown tremendous progress. This is reflected in its Gross Domestic Product (at current prices) which has increased 33 % in 2023 (projected) as compared to 2019-20.
“Also the State’s per capita income has increased by 30 per cent in same period which which is a great achivement,” he said.
Governor also praised the State government for successfully hosting the G20 meetings in the State.
Governor also made a special mention of hosting the international Purple Festival 2024, which he said has left ab enduring impact on the State.
“I congratulate the whole team of International Purple Fest for making event a greand success,” he said.
24×7 power in State…
For ensuring 24 x 7 uninterrupted power supply in the State, My Government has devised 10 packages under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme to include various projects aimed in improving power supply, quality and reliability, Governor said.
He said these projects are related to replacement of old / flayed Distribution Transformer Centres, providing new Distribution Transformer Centres, Re-conductoring of old / frayed 33kV overhead conductors, 11KV and LT Underground Cabling works, RMUs for 11KV cabling works along with IT/OT works. Work orders have been issued for 10 number of infrastructure works amounting to Rs. 300 crore.
“The tender for installation of 7.5 lakh Smart Metering works under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme is floated and the order is expected to be issued within next 2 months,” Pillai stated.
Eco-friendly industries….
He said the State Government has cut the red tape for free inflow of ecofriendly industries though the Goa Startup Policy, Agri Export Policy, Information Technology Investment Policy.
“My Government has decided to simplify the processes for investors with single-window clearance for land allotment and construction of industries. Commercial plots will be made available to industries through a simplified auction route which will enhance revenue & job opportunities,” he said.
Pillai informed during the current financial year, 10,857 Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) filed online Udyam Registration with employment potential of 43,009 persons upto November 2023. Goa Investment Promotion Board (Goa IPB) has granted approval to 12 new industrial units & 9 expansion proposal of the existing manufacturing units during 2023-24 (upto November 57 2023).
“The total investment expected from these activities is Rs. 698.53 crore with proposed employment potential of 5568 persons. Goa-IPB has diligently worked with 40 plus State Departments to implement 300 plus reform points as mandated by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India,” he said.
