PANAJI: Govt of Goa through Dept of Science Technology and Waste Management has been instrumental in honouring the commitment of Late Manohar Parrikar to organise such science lecture series for the scientific temperament and for love for science among students’ community.
Such science lecture series shall also enhance the knowledge of researchers and students, said Minister for Science Technology and Waste Management Michael Lobo.
Lobo was speaking at the Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav, 2021 organised by DTE of Science Technology and Waste Management at Dona Paula.
Also present were the Director-General CSIR, Dr Shekar Mande, Prof. Ada E Yonath, Noble Laureate Chemistry (2009), Prof K Kasturirangan, Former chairman ISRO, Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Prof IIT Kanpur, Former Secretary, Dept of Science Technology Govt of India, Shri Jose Manual Noronha, Chairman GPSC and Chairman Advisory Committee for MPVM, Chief Secretary, Govt of Goa, Dr Sunil Sigh, Director NIO, Secretary, Science & Technology, Govt of Goa.
He further said that the late Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Manohar Parrikar, during the inauguration of the Noble Prize series 2018, declared that Govt would hold a scientific lecture series every year in the State Goa to encourage, inculcate a sense of scientific temperament among the students of Goa.
In order to honour his commitment, my Govt decided to observe “Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav” on his birthday, i.e. 13th Dec every year where eminent scientists deliver scientific lectures, he added.
He also highlighted the various work done by the Department of Science Technology and Waste Management.
Prof. K. Kasturirangan, Former Chairman, ISRO gave an online lecture on the Indian Space Programme.
Prof. Ada E. Yonath, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2009) gave the second lecture of the day. Whereas Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. Of India spoke on preparing for the future; Science and Innovation in the new millennium at NIO.
