PANAJI: Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik informed that Fruit fly is the major pest of Mango in Goa, due to which major production loss occurs.
“Fruit fly is the major pest of Mango in Goa, due to which major production loss occurs. As precaution and management practices, Mango fruit fly traps are provided to the farmers at 50% subsidized rate.” said Naik
He further said that data of yield per year of each local varieties of Mangoes is not maintained/available.
Minister also informed that the Directorate of Agriculture organized a State Level ‘Mango Show 2024’ from 17th to 18th May 2024 at Kala Academy Panjim to provide a platform for the farmers, students, researchers and general public to learn about various mango varities and best cultivation practices.
“The event stimulated discussion and ideas for innovation resulting in improved cultivation techniques. The Directorate of Agriculture facilitated the export of 3 quintals of local Mancurad mango to United Kingdom coordinated by APEDA.” he added
