PERNEM: Pernem Police have arrested a 27-year-old man after allegedly finding him in possession of 205 grams of suspected ganja near the underpass of the Mopa Airport link exit road at Sukhekulan, Dhargal.
According to the state complaint filed by PSI Aditya M. Gad, the accused, identified as Irfan, originally from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, and presently residing near the parking area at Arambol, was apprehended between 10 pm and 11.49 pm on July 25.
Police alleged that the accused was caught red-handed carrying a black bag containing approximately 205 grams of greenish dried leaves with flowering and fruiting tops, seeds and stalks, suspected to be ganja, valued at around ₹20,000.
The suspected narcotic substance was seized under a panchanama after following the mandatory provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was formally arrested at 2.06 am on July 26 and placed in police custody.
Police stated that all Supreme Court guidelines relating to the arrest and seizure were followed. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Aditya M. Gad of Pernem Police Station.
