PONDA: A scooter rider was killed after a Maruti Alto car allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner collided with his two-wheeler near Adarsh Palace Hotel at Konem, Priol, on Sunday evening.
According to Mardol Police, the case was registered on the complaint of HC Suraj Gaude. Police said the accident occurred at around 7 pm on August 2, 2026, when the Maruti Alto, driven by Savanta Ram Sutar, a resident of Karaswada, Mapusa, originally from Barmer, Rajasthan, was proceeding from Ponda towards Mardol.
During the journey, the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle on a curved stretch of road near Adarsh Palace Hotel, Konem, Priol, and crashed into an oncoming Honda Activa scooter.
The scooter rider, Datta Naik, a resident of Shenviwada, Shiroda, Ponda, sustained grievous injuries in the collision. He was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Mardol Police have registered a case against the car driver for causing death by rash and negligent driving. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Abhilash Naik.
