MARGAO: A resident of Mandopa, Navelim, was allegedly cheated of ₹2.28 lakh in an online air-conditioner sale scam, with Margao Town Police registering a case and launching an investigation.
According to police, complainant Nitin Parashari, a resident of Mandopa, Navelim, reported that between March 26 and April 2, 2026, an unknown person contacted him through an online advertisement offering 12 new air-conditioners for sale.
Police said the accused allegedly convinced the complainant that the AC units would be delivered upon payment and even arranged for a person to visit the complainant’s shop for inspection and pickup, making the offer appear genuine.
Believing the representations, the complainant transferred a total of ₹2,28,000 through multiple UPI transactions.
However, after receiving the money, the accused allegedly failed to deliver the air-conditioners and stopped responding to the complainant’s phone calls and messages, causing wrongful loss to the complainant.
Margao Town Police have registered a case of cheating, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Subhash Gaonkar.
