MARGAO: A resident of Chinchinim in Salcete was allegedly cheated of ₹3 lakh by an unidentified cyber fraudster who posed as a representative of a consumer forum.
According to police, the complainant, Alphone Monteiro, reported that the incident occurred on April 18 at around 9:00 am when he was contacted through an online platform claiming to be linked to the National Consumer Forum.
The accused allegedly convinced the complainant to share his mobile screen while processing a payment for form fees under the pretext of filing a complaint on the portal. Believing the claim, the complainant complied, following which ₹3,00,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account in a single transaction.
Police have registered a case of cheating against an unknown accused.
