OLD GOA: Old Goa Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly accepting matka bets from the public at Chimbel in Tiswadi.
According to police, Mehaboob Amin Patel Biradar, a businessman and resident of Indira Nagar, Chimbel, was caught red-handed near the Chimbel bus stand on July 20, 2026, at around 8.10 pm while allegedly accepting bets, collecting money, and issuing paper slips containing numerical figures.
During the operation, police seized ₹2,050 from the accused, comprising ₹500 notes (3), ₹100 note (1), ₹50 notes (8), and ₹10 notes (5), which were allegedly used in the gambling activity.
Based on a complaint filed by PSI Manohar N. Dhulapkar on behalf of the State, Old Goa Police registered Crime No. 95/2026 under Section 11(2)(a) of the Goa Public Gambling Act.
The accused was placed under arrest at 9.46 pm after following the prescribed Supreme Court guidelines and was subsequently released on bail the same day at 10.05 pm upon furnishing a local surety.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Manohar N. Dhulapkar.
