TALEIGAO: A 51-year-old man was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting bets from members of the public at an open place in Kevney, Taleigao late on Tuesday night.
According to police, the accused, Annu Gawas, a resident of Kevney, was apprehended at around 10:15 pm near Krishna Store for engaging in illegal gambling activities involving numerical betting.
Police seized cash amounting to ₹1,200 in different denominations along with other gambling-related articles from his possession.
The action was initiated based on a complaint filed by Head Constable Rajesh Yeshi of Panaji Police Station. The accused was formally arrested at 12:12 am on April 23.
He was later released on the same day at 12:23 am on a personal bond with one surety.
Further investigation is ongoing.
