PANAJI: The Gomantak Bhandari Samaj’s central committee was unlawfully holding seats, according to Inspector General of Societies/District Registrar North Panjim, who has suggested to the government that an administrator be appointed until new elections are held.
In his ruling, Inspector General of Societies Tushan G. Kunkolikar ruled that the current governing committee (2018–2021), led by Ashok Naik, was unlawfully retaining its post without legal authority and, as a result, was unable to make significant policy choices on the society’s business.
The central governing committee will only act as a custodian of the society’s records and business before turning them over to the administrator or administrators chosen by the government.
In his order, Kunkolikar declared that the changes made while the central managing committee was in office were unlawful, against the law, and in contravention of Section 12 of the Society Registration Act of 1860.
The Inspector General of Societies proposed to the government that an administrator or administrators be appointed in accordance with its decision to take over the society’s affairs and to hold free, fair, and impartial elections to elect the new central managing committee in a timely manner and in the best interests of the Gomantak Bhandari Samaj because the society’s operations were not being conducted properly, particularly in accordance with the Society Registration Act and the Society’s bylaws.
After Adv. Atish P. Mandrekar and Anish Bakal filed a complaint on September 20, 2024, the order was issued. For a duration of three years, the elections took place on November 25, 2018.
