PANAJI: Goa BJP President Damu Naik said St Cruz MLA Babush Monserrate did not consult the party before inaugurating a BJP office in St Cruz, asserting that the BJP follows an organisational system under which there cannot be two party offices in the same Assembly constituency.
Addressing a press conference, Naik said the party would invite both Babush Monserrate and BJP leader Rudolf Fernandes for discussions to resolve the issue and maintain unity within the organisation. He said the BJP would address the matter through internal dialogue in keeping with the party’s established structure and principles.
The remarks come amid political attention over the parallel BJP offices in the St Cruz constituency, where Monserrate and Fernandes have emerged as key leaders ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Speaking on candidate selection, Naik said the BJP has a well-defined system for deciding Assembly election tickets and that the process would be followed at the appropriate time. He welcomed the growing interest among party workers to contest the 2027 elections, saying it reflected the party’s expanding organisational strength.
Naik said the BJP’s goal is to secure 30 seats in the 2027 Goa Assembly elections and expressed confidence that the party would continue strengthening its base across the state.
On the party’s upcoming programmes, Naik said Union Home Minister Amit Shah is tentatively expected to visit Goa on September 6, with another programme proposed for September 7. However, he clarified that the schedule is yet to be finalised and the official itinerary will be announced once confirmed.
He also said the BJP’s new state headquarters is about 95 per cent complete and in the final stages of construction, adding that it will soon be ready for inauguration.
