CANACONA: Following electrification of Margao-Canacona route, the Mangalore-Madgaon passenger Train has to cut short its journey at Canacona Station on Friday afternoon.
Over 250 passengers bound to Margao had to alight at Canacona Station at about 1 pm on Friday, as the Mangalore- Madgaon Passenger (56640) train stopped at Canacona.
The passengers women and children were seen scurrying to find transportations for their onward journey, as only a few of rickshaws and taxis rushed to the Station. However, not many taking the rickshaw, pilot’s ad taxi services many passengers were seen walking upto the NH-66 road at nagorcem to find public transportation.
Still others, preferred to walk half a kilometre to reach KTC Bus-Stand, others walked half a kilometre to Char-Rasta in an efforts to take public transportations(Buses) to reach Margao and elsewhere.
Finding the rates quoted as high as Rs.500/- to KTC Bus-Stand, or to Palolem, many refusing to take rickshaw or taxi services, preferred to walk also to Palolem beach, informed a source.
Station Master at KRC Station, Canacona informed the cut-short of trains is scheduled for two day (Thursday and Friday), and a publics notification is issued at respective Railway Stations, that the train will not proceed beyond Canacona Station.
‘It’s only as temporary arrangements for a maximum of 3-4 hours for these two days, between 1 pm – 4 pm on Friday so that necessary electricifications works can be carried out between Canacona to Balli krc route and Balli Madgao route.
As this route sealing timing coincided with the Mangalore-Madgao Pasenger train, this train will end its journey at Canacona, and instead of Madgaon, Canacona Station will be the starting point of this Train to go to Mangalore.
It is not that railway has caused any inconvenience, but people have knowingly travelled and the train was stopped from proceeding the Margao with the full knowledge of passengers concerned.’.
‘The Train traffic will be normal from Saturday on KRC route’, informed the canacona Station Master.
