PANAJI: Minister Mauvin Godinho accused the Congress of hypocrisy over the protests in Jharkhand, questioning the party’s alleged silence as students faced tear gas and lathi charges.
Godinho said the BJP government had listened to Gen Z protesters and acted on their demands, while protests in Jharkhand were being met with police action.
He said Rahul Gandhi should come forward and take up the issue with the Congress-allied government in Jharkhand. Godinho added that if Congress wants a debate on the matter, the BJP-led Central Government is ready to discuss it in Parliament.
Godinho also pointed to Congress’ participation in protests at Jantar Mantar, where the party has demanded resignations, and its repeated disruptions of Parliament.
He alleged that Congress had stayed away from the Gen Z protests in Jharkhand because it is part of an alliance government in the state.
“We demand that Rahul Gandhi apologise to Parliament and the people of India for this double standard,” Godinho said.
