PORVORIM: Reinforcing his commitment to women’s empowerment and community well-being, Porvorim MLA and Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte participated in a Healthy Cooking Competition organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha in Porvorim constituency on Friday.
Held under the theme “Less Oil, Less Gas”, the competition witnessed the participation of more than 100 women who presented nutritious and innovative dishes while promoting healthy cooking practices, wellness and efficient use of resources.
The programme was attended by BJP Mahila Morcha State President Suvarna Tendulkar, office-bearers of the Mahila Morcha, elected representatives, party workers and residents from across the constituency. The event was organised under the leadership of Reena Fernandes, President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Porvorim Constituency, along with members of the organisation.
Addressing the gathering, Khaunte highlighted the BJP’s focus on Mahila Shakti, Kisan Shakti, Yuva Shakti and Garib Kalyan, stating that women remain central to nation-building and social development. He spoke about various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life and dignity of women and stressed the importance of health, nutrition and fitness in daily life.
Linking the initiative to the vision of a Fit India, Fit Goa and Fit Porvorim, the Minister encouraged families to adopt healthier eating habits and make informed lifestyle choices. He noted that women today are making significant contributions across sectors and are playing a transformative role in strengthening families and communities.
“The strength of every society lies in the health and empowerment of its women. Through initiatives such as this Healthy Cooking Competition, we are not only encouraging nutritious eating habits but also creating awareness about preventive healthcare and wellness. When women lead the way in adopting healthy lifestyles, they inspire positive change across entire families and communities,” Khaunte said.
As part of the programme, a nutrition awareness session was conducted by Dr. Kanhanya Sirsat of PHC Porvorim, who highlighted the importance of balanced diets and healthy eating habits in preventing lifestyle-related illnesses.
Following the event, Khaunte interacted with participants, visited the display counters and sampled the dishes prepared by the contestants. Five participants were felicitated for their outstanding culinary creations.
The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on women’s empowerment, healthy living and community participation, while reaffirming the BJP Mahila Morcha’s efforts to create awareness on issues affecting families and society.
