MAPUSA: On Friday, workers of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) staged a protest outside Municipality, demanding that their 21 points new agreement be considered and issued to them at the earliest.
Speaking to the media, Vice Chairperson of MMC Keshav Prabhu Desai informed that the aforementioned agreement had ended last year.
According to him, the workers had submitted a new agreement with a demand to hike medical allowance by Rs 1000, keeping all the other points the same.
“A year ago, the new agreement with revised demands was desked at the council meeting headed by Chairperson, Vice President, Chief Officer and others. In this meeting, we were assured that our demand of a medical allowance hike will be met and we will be issued a new agreement soon”. It’s been a year since our demand has been kept pending, said Desai.
Municipality Employee President Shivaji Kamble said the council is not against anyone. “Our demand is simple, rise in medical allowance”.
Kamble emphasised that the agitation will continue till they receive an agreement from the Chief Officer stating that their demand has been met.
As informed by one of the Union employees, a total of 147 permanent staff members falling under various categories of workers took part in the protest that was staged outside the municipality building demanding a hike in medical allowance. Union workers also, at this time, gave ten days ultimatum to the Labour Commission to take their demands into consideration.
