VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has taken a new initiative under the leadership of MMC Chairperson Girish Borker and sounded warning bells to people encroaching in markets and other areas
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker speaking to the media on Wednesday afternoon said that MMC will not tolerate illegalities and encroachment
“We are not against any business but we will take the most stringent action on anyone indulging in encroachment and illegalities in our jurisdiction. We have received several complaints from organisations, individuals, senior citizens and women about congestion in the markets,” he said.
The chairperson says “We want to instill discipline and we have warned them that we will either confiscate goods and even seal shops or cancel licences in case found in regular encroachments. We have now cleared the area opposite the Salgaoncar House where people would sit on the roadside and eat up the parking space. We have also cleared the congestion in the fruits and vegetables market of Vasco and I have requested all the Councillors not to interfere with the MMC actions. ”
Borkar said he has urged Chief Officer Jayant Tari to initiate stringent action and requested all the MLAs not to support any of the vendors who may face action from MMC.
He said the MMC is also requesting the people to come forward and point out any illegality or encroachment noticed by them in the market so that the MMC can take necessary action.
“We want the markets to be free from congestions and have ample space for people, especially senior citizens and women to move around while giving the city also a good look without any traffic hindrance or encroachments,” said Borker.
