Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were involved in a run-fest when they locked horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match No. 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Wednesday, March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Sunrisers, led by Pat Cummins, won the match by 31 runs, but Hardik Pandya’s MI gave them an almighty scare.
After being put in to bat first, SRH scored 277 for 3 in 20 overs. Travis Head raced his way to an 18-ball fifty, after which it was Abhishek Sharma’s turn to smash a half-century off 16 balls. After they got out, the hulk-like Heinrich Klaasen came out all guns blazing.
Klaasen blasted an unbeaten 80 off 34 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes. Barring Jasprit Bumrah, all the MI bowlers had an economy rate of above 10. 17-year-old Kwena Maphaka, who made his IPL debut, recorded figures of 4-0-66-0.
In their run-chase, MI came out with intent, playing shots all around the ground. After the 10-over mark, they gave themselves a fair chance of chasing down the target. But in the end, they only managed to score 246 for 5 in their quota of 20 overs.
